As a Family Mediator with a passion for supporting clients during challenging times, I understand how stressful navigating family law issues can be. Whether it’s resolving financial matters during divorce, finding solutions for child arrangements after a relationship breakdown, or addressing other family law concerns, my goal is always to help clients reach mutually acceptable outcomes.
With nearly 30 years of experience teaching and researching Family Law around the world, I’ve had the privilege of educating the next generation of family law practitioners. Half of my week is still spent in the classroom, currently at Southampton Solent University Law School, where we’ve recently launched the Southampton Solent University Law Clinic.

What is the Southampton Solent University Law Clinic?
The clinic offers free legal advice to the local Southampton community on Family Law and Landlord & Tenant matters. It’s an exciting new project made possible through the collaboration of Brad Kershaw, Course Leader at the Law School, and Jonathan Whettingsteel from Dutton Gregory Solicitors. Their vision has resulted in a valuable resource for individuals who need legal support but may not have the financial means to pay for it, and for those who are not eligible for legal aid.
How Does the Law Clinic Help?
At the clinic, law students receive training and guidance from experienced solicitors at Dutton Gregory to provide high-quality, free legal advice to those in need. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap for people who may struggle to access legal assistance otherwise. It’s been incredible to watch the Southampton Solent University students embrace this mission to open up access to legal services, and I look forward to seeing how they develop and grow through this hands-on experience.
Why This Matters
For many people, the cost of legal services can be prohibitive. By offering free advice through the Law Clinic, we’re not only helping individuals resolve their family law and tenancy issues but also ensuring that more people have access to the legal support they need.
I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my colleagues at Family Solutions, who share my belief in combining academic and professional practice. I’m thrilled to be part of a Law School that’s committed to investing in initiatives like this that benefit the community.
