Anne Scully-Johnson
I have specialised in Public Law, Family Law and Dispute Resolution over the past 30 years, teaching Law to undergraduate and postgraduate students in London, Hong Kong and Copenhagen. In addition to holding the post of Associate Professor of Law I have been an accredited general mediator in the UK since 2009 and in Hong Kong since 2012.
Working closely with professionals from multiple disciplines, it became apparent to me that where possible, a non-court based outcome for separating families and for families in conflict was almost always a more constructive and positive outcome for them. This led me to become an accredited specialist family mediator first in Hong Kong in 2017 and in 2022 in the UK. I am a member of Resolution, the Family Mediation Council and the Hong Kong Mediation and Accreditation Association Limited.
I have provided training in dispute resolution and family law for solicitors, barristers and judiciary, as well as non-legal professionals who work with families and children. I am actively engaged in research into Family Law, with a special focus on family violence and children’s rights, and I have published a number of books and articles in national and international law journals and led several research projects in the fields of Family Law, Dispute Resolution and Public Law. I am an adviser to the Ombudsman of Hong Kong, and I volunteer for the Winchester Mediation Service. I have served, and continues to serve, on the committees of various Family Law and Public Law bodies in the UK, Hong Kong and internationally.
I believe deeply in the power of individuals to create their own solutions to the challenges they face and the value of mediation in supporting them to do that.
When not at work, I am found either with my nose in a good ‘whodunnit’ or trying to recreate my favourite Thai and Chinese dishes at home. I have an 18 month dachshund puppy who is determinedly resisting all attempts at training but who is an enthusiastic communicator!
“Thank you ever so much you’ve been amazing, words can explain how I’m feeling it’s been a very emotional time lately with so much happening, today has lifted me, very happy with everything.”
